The location known as Jorf in Morocco has been a hotbed of new trilobite species for the past few years. Recently, specimens have been coming from a new site known as Fezna, some 10 km from the original site, now sometimes referred to as the Red Jorf site. This one is most like the trilobite known as Ceratonurus from both Morocco and Oklahoma (see my other offerings for examples). It is easy to see the differences between this type and the other two. It is smaller in size than the Moroccan Ceratonurus and has much more flamboyant spines than either. To make things more complicated this is the FIRST example like this from Fezna (the other THREE known to me were from Jorf proper) in that it has intermediate pleural thoracic spines and fine pygidial spines, neither of which are known from the Red Site specimens. Both types from Jorf may well be yet another new genus yet to be described, and most likely two distinct genera I have included several in-preparation photos showing the specimen while being freed from the matrix. I will provide a full set of inprep photos to the lucky buyer. |
